Filter driers are play an important role in your central HVAC system. Driers have more than one purpose in a system. They absorb moisture/water, most importantly, which prevents acids from being created and they provide filtration. Being that we live in a particularly humid location, moisture can build up easily within a system. If one of the driers on your system fails, it could create a number of symptions. If a drier becomes plugged, it can cause a restricted evaporator coil which will lead to reduced ability to cool. One an evaporator coil is restricted, it may then freeze. Another sign that your filter drier has failed is if one side is hotter than the other. Driers are tube in shape and a block in one end could cause a temperature difference. Other signs of a failed filter drier is a lower temperature on the condensing coil and an overfeeding TXV. If you suspect you have issues with a filter drier, you should call the HVAC experts at Melco HVAC Services of Orlando. Extended use of the equipment with a clogged filter drier could cause failure to major components.
