Suction Line Accumulator
Because the compressor is the heart of an air conditioner or heat pump system (also the most expensive component), it needs some protection. That is where the suction line accumulator comes in. The accumulator acts as a reservoir for oil and liquid refrigerant that may have otherwise found it's way into the compressor. Because these compressors are intended to compress vapor only, liquid would cause damage and an early failure. Liquid that enters the accumulator is turned into a vapor and returned to the compressor. Heat pumps are more prone to liquid entering the suction line than their air conditioner counter-part. Because Orlando is primarily a heat pump market, it is important that central HVAC systems here have accumulators. Often times when the accumulator has failed, it is due to being too small. Other issues that can cause an accumulator to fail on your Orlando heat pump system is that debris has clogged the metering device. Melco HVAC Services of Orlando can repair the accumulator on your air conditioner or heat pump, check out the costs on accumulator related services below.
